Bewitched by metal and ink

What I love about art being made in Iran today is the respect that it pays to the craft of art making. From the aesthetics to the charm to the humanity it portrays. 28 year old Afshin Chizari utilises etching, a 600-year-old technique, to bring us into his contemporary life.

His etchings, although made up of cold ink and metal, portray human warmth,  humility and tenderness.

There are no colours, no graphics and no abstraction. Yet the artist produces moving works that invite us to think of our own families, stories and history. This to me is the definition of bewitching.

Afshin lives and works in Tehran Iran and, unsurprisingly,  is also an accomplished sketcher.
